Medieval Studies: Introduction

Introduction

For a quick definition of the medieval period, think of the millennium from 500 C.E through 1500 C.E. The generally accepted period of the Medieval period, also referred to as the Middle Ages, begins in the 5th Century with the so-called Fall of Rome, with the repeated sacking of Rome by the Visigoths and Vandals, and runs through the completion of the Hundred Years War in Europe, mid-fifteenth Century.

This guide will offer a starting point for the very broad study of social life and customs, trade and exploration, philosophy and religion, literature, and the arts that make up this fascinating historical period.
