Reading Lists in Canvas

Reading List?

Reading List enables you to add Rowan University Libraries’ resources, websites, or your own documents to a central location in Canvas where students can find and access course materials, all in one convenient location.

Why Should I Use It?

Reading List simplifies Rowan University Libraries’ Course Reserves system and makes it easy to use. Using Reading List you can:

  • Link directly to electronic resources (articles, ebooks, ebook chapters, etc.)
  • Easily place materials on Course Reserves.
  • Review how your students use course materials.
  • Suggest purchases for course materials.

How Do I Get Started?

Log into Canvas and open your course.
Add Reading List to the course’s navigation menu:

  • Click Settings in the side bar
  • Click the Navigation tab
  • Drag the Reading List option from the bottom to the top.
  • Click Save

Select Reading List, which should now appear in the side bar:

  • Click “Create New Reading List”
  • Choose a template (example: ‘weeks’)

Start adding course materials:

  • Search the library catalog & add to your list
  • Manually add a citation
  • Upload your own documents
