Campbell Library Renovation: Frequently Asked Questions

Is the library building open during renovation?

Throughout our renovation, Campbell Library will never completely close. During Phase One (through approximately early November 2024), we will be doing everything we can to keep as many spaces and services available to the community for as long as possible. More of the building will go offline once Phase Two begins, as Floors 1, 2, & 3 begin construction. However, at that point the new Dreamscape Learn Center will open on the 4th floor. Throughout the renovation, the 5th floor faculty offices will remain accessible. And we are planning to maintain an Info Desk service point near the 1st Floor entrance for picking up books, interlibrary loans, and course reserves, throughout the renovation. Please check the Services During Renovation listing for more detail.

Is the library expanding?

There will be no new floors or wings added to Campbell Library. But we are excited for all of the changes coming to our existing footprint.

Where can I find another quiet space to study?

With renovation begun, Campbell Library will not always be conducive to quiet study. We suggest a number of possible alternatives across the Glassboro campus, including in these buildings:

  • Business
  • Discovery
  • Engineering
  • James
  • Savitz

Post-renovation, Campbell Library plans to reopen with a newly dedicated quiet floor.

Where can I print or use a public computer on campus?

Some computing and printing is currently available. However, beginning with Phase Two, Campbell's computing and printing will go offline. As an alternative, please access public computing and printing at any of the other open computing labs on campus. Additional printing kiosks are located around campus including at the Student Center. Please contact IRT with any questions.

For distance learners and faculty, Campbell Library will send print materials (Rowan-owned or Interlibrary Loan) to the address you register, along with a return shipping label. Request Off-Campus Delivery

Can I use other nearby libraries during the renovation?

Possibly. We have consortial partnerships with a number of other NJ and PA academic libraries. We recommend that you review the locations and required forms for accessing these different libraries, and that you call ahead to confirm any individual policies for accessing their library and their collections. We are also happy to help if you have questions about accessing a particular other school's library.

I heard the library is getting rid of most of its books. Is that true?

No. Campbell Library has spent the last year preparing for the renovation by thoughtfully reviewing our print collection. We have used both data-driven decision making (number of checkouts, last checkout date, number of holdings at our partner libraries, publication date, etc) and direct review in partnership with teaching faculty to divide our collections into three paths: a) a browsable collection that our community needs and wants to have on-site for serendipitous exploration, b) an off-site collection that can be recalled to the library quickly for use by patrons, and c) a small percentage that is no longer relevant to our curriculum and research to be donated or recycled.

At the same time, we have been growing our print collection with dedicated funds and outreach to our community in an effort to ensure everyone at Rowan sees themselves and their reading needs reflected in our shared collections.

What if something changes during the renovation?

We are committed to maintaining transparency throughout the renovation process. This site represents our current knowledge, and we are dedicated to keeping the Rowan community updated as the renovation proceeds.

We recognize that this renovation brings a significant change to the campus experience including disruption for current needs and some uncertainty about post-renovation Campbell. We understand the significance of this library in the education, research, and day-to-day lives of our Rowan community, and the trust you place in us as we work to make it better for this community. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We are so excited for this project to be complete so we can all enjoy a renewed and refreshed Campbell Library together. If you have any questions that have not been addressed, feel free to reach out.
