Generative AI is a subset of artificial intelligence that creates new content - text, images, multimedia - in response to a prompt. Models rely on patterns found in large datasets used as training input. These datasets in turn rely on labeled metadata. The automated process of generating content can result in "hallucinations" where the model provides incorrect responses. Models cannot easily distinguish between true and untrue, biased and unbiased information, although the processes of verification are improving over time.
Be careful about asking AI chatbots questions where you don't have the expertise to judge the accuracy of the response.
