Canvas and Library Guides

Integrating Library Guides with Canvas using the LTI tool

Library Guides and Canvas

Rowan University faculty can now integrate content from Library Guides into Canvas courses using the Library Guides LTI Tool. You can embed an entire Library Guide, a page or box from a Library Guide, or a list of databases from the Database Finder. This guide explains how to use this new option in Canvas.

For some of the commonly reused boxes visit the guide Library Guide boxes for Canvas.

What are Library Guides?

Library Guides are webpages created by Rowan librarians that help students find library resources. They are branded as Research Guides on the Campbell Library website. You are reading a Library Guide right now!

You are welcome to explore the directory of Research Guides below to find content you want to put in your course. However, there are hundreds of guides available so we suggest contacting your Subject Librarian for recommendations.

Once you've decided what content you want to use, use the step-by-step instructions in this guide to learn how to embed the chosen content into your course shell.

What can you do with the Canvas - Library Guides integration?

Library Guides point your students to many types of valuable educational content, including:

  • librarian-created tutorials for self-paced learning about evaluating and citing sources - example
  • lists of databases with subscribed content specific to your discipline - example
  • lists of links to useful external websites - example
  • curated lists of relevant books or articles - example
  • library tools like Library Search, Journal Finder, and Interlibrary Loan - example

Talk to your subject librarian for more ideas!
