hello and welcome to our tutorial on how

0:00:06.080,0:00:12.719
to export your powerpoint presentations

0:00:08.960,0:00:16.320
with an audio voiceover to a video file

0:00:12.719,0:00:18.800
my name is mike benson

0:00:16.320,0:00:19.680
in this tutorial we will learn to export

0:00:18.800,0:00:22.560
an audio

0:00:19.680,0:00:24.000
voiceover powerpoint presentation to a

0:00:22.560,0:00:26.000
video file

0:00:24.000,0:00:27.199
we will also learn to use a free

0:00:26.000,0:00:30.720
application

0:00:27.199,0:00:32.399
called the vlc media player to further

0:00:30.720,0:00:36.399
compress these files

0:00:32.399,0:00:38.079
making them smaller and easier to access

0:00:36.399,0:00:40.320
video files of your powerpoint

0:00:38.079,0:00:42.399
presentations or lectures

0:00:40.320,0:00:43.360
are easy to create and they can be

0:00:42.399,0:00:44.960
quickly

0:00:43.360,0:00:46.960
shared using a learning management

0:00:44.960,0:00:50.399
system such as canvas

0:00:46.960,0:00:50.399
or even through google drive

0:00:52.239,0:00:56.559
if you need to know more about recording

0:00:54.239,0:00:58.879
your powerpoint presentations

0:00:56.559,0:01:00.640
check out our tutorial recording an

0:00:58.879,0:01:03.359
audio voiceover lecture

0:01:00.640,0:01:04.080
using powerpoint we have added a link to

0:01:03.359,0:01:07.360
this video

0:01:04.080,0:01:10.080
below in this tutorial

0:01:07.360,0:01:11.040
we will again use dr fred adelson's

0:01:10.080,0:01:13.770
powerpoint

0:01:11.040,0:01:14.880
from his art criticism course

0:01:13.770,0:01:17.520
[Music]

0:01:14.880,0:01:19.920
when creating powerpoint presentations

0:01:17.520,0:01:21.600
that will be shared as a video file

0:01:19.920,0:01:23.040
it is important to be aware of the

0:01:21.600,0:01:24.640
length of your presentation

0:01:23.040,0:01:27.439
[Music]

0:01:24.640,0:01:29.119
the longer the presentation the larger

0:01:27.439,0:01:32.000
the video file

0:01:29.119,0:01:32.640
the larger the video file the longer it

0:01:32.000,0:01:36.240
will take

0:01:32.640,0:01:38.479
students to access the video online

0:01:36.240,0:01:40.640
this is especially critical for students

0:01:38.479,0:01:44.079
who have slower internet service

0:01:40.640,0:01:45.680
or an older computer i recommend

0:01:44.079,0:01:48.720
breaking up your presentation

0:01:45.680,0:01:50.640
into shorter chunks no longer than about

0:01:48.720,0:01:53.439
15 minutes

0:01:50.640,0:01:54.960
of course shorter is better somewhere

0:01:53.439,0:01:57.600
around seven to eight minutes

0:01:54.960,0:01:58.240
is a good target this will also help

0:01:57.600,0:02:01.840
students

0:01:58.240,0:02:04.159
learn and remember the information

0:02:01.840,0:02:06.159
to export a presentation that includes

0:02:04.159,0:02:10.720
an audio voiceover

0:02:06.159,0:02:12.560
go to the file menu and select export

0:02:10.720,0:02:13.920
from here select the file format

0:02:12.560,0:02:16.959
drop-down menu

0:02:13.920,0:02:19.760
and select mp4

0:02:16.959,0:02:20.560
in theory you could also use the mov

0:02:19.760,0:02:25.040
option

0:02:20.560,0:02:25.040
but this format creates a larger file

0:02:25.680,0:02:30.400
[Music]

0:02:27.520,0:02:30.959
for the quality option most courses can

0:02:30.400,0:02:34.560
select

0:02:30.959,0:02:37.760
internet quality if reading smaller text

0:02:34.560,0:02:38.319
and seeing fine detail is important i

0:02:37.760,0:02:41.360
recommend

0:02:38.319,0:02:43.280
using presentation quality if you have

0:02:41.360,0:02:46.560
slides that do not include

0:02:43.280,0:02:51.840
an audio voiceover adjust the time your

0:02:46.560,0:02:51.840
students will need for these slides

0:02:51.920,0:02:55.840
once ready press the export button which

0:02:54.879,0:02:59.519
will prompt you

0:02:55.840,0:02:59.519
to name and save the file

0:02:59.840,0:03:02.879
saving may take a few minutes you can

0:03:02.239,0:03:05.840
monitor

0:03:02.879,0:03:05.840
the progress here

0:03:07.020,0:03:12.959
[Music]

0:03:09.840,0:03:15.360
once the file is saved open the vlc

0:03:12.959,0:03:16.080
application if you don't have the

0:03:15.360,0:03:19.920
software

0:03:16.080,0:03:23.840
do a search for vlc media player

0:03:19.920,0:03:23.840
and download and install the software

0:03:25.360,0:03:29.599
once the vlc application is open go to

0:03:28.640,0:03:33.840
the file menu

0:03:29.599,0:03:33.840
and select convert stream

0:03:34.000,0:03:38.480
use the open media button to select your

0:03:36.879,0:03:42.400
video file

0:03:38.480,0:03:45.280
i recommend using these settings

0:03:42.400,0:03:46.640
then select a destination to save your

0:03:45.280,0:03:49.360
file

0:03:46.640,0:03:51.920
be sure to enter a new file name so that

0:03:49.360,0:03:54.959
you don't save over the original

0:03:51.920,0:03:55.439
then press save the software will then

0:03:54.959,0:03:58.840
start

0:03:55.439,0:04:01.840
process and after a few minutes it will

0:03:58.840,0:04:01.840
save

0:04:03.030,0:04:09.120
[Music]

0:04:06.879,0:04:11.360
the vlc software did a great job

0:04:09.120,0:04:14.720
compressing or video file

0:04:11.360,0:04:17.759
it went from 457mb

0:04:14.720,0:04:18.940
down to 55 megabytes which is much more

0:04:17.759,0:04:20.880
manageable

0:04:18.940,0:04:25.360
[Music]

0:04:20.880,0:04:25.360
as you can see the quality is excellent

0:04:26.880,0:04:33.120
the big question here is but is it

0:04:30.000,0:04:33.759
art again we're looking at now on the

0:04:33.120,0:04:38.000
left

0:04:33.759,0:04:39.919
bottle rack on the right bicycle wheel

0:04:38.000,0:04:42.400
in the next tutorial we will learn how

0:04:39.919,0:04:43.440
to insert video lecture files into

0:04:42.400,0:04:47.280
canvas

0:04:43.440,0:04:48.720
or another lms without using the lms's

0:04:47.280,0:04:57.840
network storage

0:04:48.720,0:04:57.840
i hope to see you there
